It seems like it’s been forever since we saw the Psych gang on our screens (well, if you don’t count the amazing Psych Slumber Party marathon a couple of weeks ago). So, to refresh your memory, in “Santabarbaratown,” Henry (Corbin Bernsen), got his badge back temporarily to join the SBPD to solve the murder of the woman whose disappearance he had been lead detective on some twenty years earlier. While doing so, some of his old buddies returned, and along the way, he discovered that they had been corrupt, totally unbeknownst to him. Unfortunately for Henry, he came to that realization as he was walking along the beach with one of them, Jerry Carp (Max Gail), who shot him at close range.
Cue to present day. Shawn (James Roday) finds Henry at the beach, just in time to stop Jerry from firing off another shot. Shawn is angry, emotional and determined to catch Jerry to bring him to justice. Against the advice of girlfriend Juliet (Maggie Lawson), Shawn returns to the crime scene with Gus (Dule Hill) to find that Jerry is only one small part of a much larger game – some very bad dudes involved in smuggling guns and other weapons to African countries, disguised as charitable donations by a well-known philanthropist, Julian Drake (Oliver Muirhead).
Our psychic detectives follow the clues from the stolen ammo they find in Jerry’s house to a firing range where, apparently, Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) is on the honors board as one of the best shots in town. The firing range also happens to be owned by another of Henry’s former partners, Jack Atwater (Jerry Wasserman). Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) is unimpressed by the messiness of the case but nevertheless cryptically supports Shawn in his effort to go after Jerry.
Gus tries to back out of helping Shawn on what he deems to be a suicide mission messing with gunrunners, especially since he is hungry and Shawn won’t let him stop for food, plus something bad happens to his beloved blue Echo, a.k.a. the Blueberry, thanks to one of Shawn’s not-so-bright ideas to take down the bad guys. Car-less and temporarily without his partner, Shawn finds a surprising helper when Lassie comes to the rescue as part of his three-step plan to avenge his father.
As always, there are laughs galore even as our gang is in constant danger. Here are some teasers for you to welcome back our team. See if you can guess who is involved in each of these scenarios:
- There’s a landmine that puts a couple in danger, a la Lethal Weapon
- Someone gets caught in the middle of a Mexican stand-off – or two
- Someone gets food poisoning
- Someone dies (gasp!)
- Someone gets an offer for a sponge bath from an unwelcome stalker
Oh, and all the while, Woody the Coroner (Kurt Fuller) is buzzing with excitement with his body bag – but will he get to use it?
For answers to all these questions, tune in to the PSYCH season 7 premiere on Wednesday, February 27th on USA Network at 10/9c.
Guest stars: Max Gail, Jake Busey, Kurt Fuller, Oliver Muirhead, Arden Myrin, Jerry Wasserman, Paul Lazenby
