With only 7 days to go until the release of ‘Scratch My Back’ on February 15th 2010, details are gradually escaping the studio. We thought we’d open the door a little wider. You can get a taste of the album in Peter’s introductory podcast series. You may have seen the now finalised track-listing and running-order we published in the ‘news’ section – if so, it will be no surprise to read that the album will feature Peter’s recordings of Heroes (David Bowie), The Boy in the Bubble (Paul Simon), Mirrorball (Elbow), Flume (Bon Iver), Listening Wind (Talking Heads), The Power of the Heart (Lou Reed), My Body is a Cage (Arcade Fire), The Book of Love (The Magnetic Fields), I Think it’s Going to Rain Today (Randy Newman), Après Moi (Regina Spektor), Philadelphia (Neil Young) and Street Spirit (Fade Out) (Radiohead).
If you have not been checking the site recently, you might like to get up-to-date with our information on the ‘Scratch My Back’ project with video and writing on the project, plus a 3 part podcast series where Peter introduces each track on the album.
Peter Gabriel’s January Full Moon Club update coincided with the release of the first Double A-side, Digital 45 from the ‘Scratch My Back’ project on iTunes . We hear from Peter about his version of ‘The Book Of Love’, and from the writer of that track, Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields, we hear about his cover of Peter’s ‘Not One Of Us’.
Along the way there is also news of release dates, tour dates and a chance to be part of the project at Real World Remixed, where on a packed full moon, ‘Not One Of Us’ was made available to remixers.
We also get a snippet of ‘Heroes’ from the ‘Scratch’ project
As a taster of things to come ‘Flume’, Peter’s cover of the Bon Iver song on ‘Scratch My Back’ is currently available as a free download.
If at the end of all that, you still need something to fill your ears this weekend, Peter took a moment away from all things ‘Scratch My Back’ to introduce some of the music from Real World Records that’s been filling his ears over the winter months.
