NEW YORK, NY (August 3, 2011) – MTV today announced that Young the Giant will make their VMA performance debut at the “2011 Video Music Awards.”  Young The Giant has appeared across MTV and mtv.com as a featured “PUSH” artist and is one of mtvU’s Freshman 5: Top 5 Bands for Summer.  They join an impressive line-up of 2011 VMA performers that include Adele, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown. The “2011 MTV Video Music Awards” will air live from Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 9PM (Live ET/Tape delayed PT.)

This Friday, August 5, 2011 the band will take the main stage at Lollapalooza.

MTV has been a huge supporter of the band since the release of their critically acclaimed debut record.  The video for “Cough Syrup,” the second single, debuted on MTV Tuesday, June 21st.  Their first single, “My Body” hit #4 on the Modern Rock charts in the U.S. and #1 on the Rock charts in Canada.  The video for “My Body” has garnered over 1,300,000 YouTube views (and counting).

Young The Giant will be on the road all summer performing at a series of great festivals across the globe including the main stage of Lollapalooza (US), Music Midtown (U.S.), Java Rockin’ Land (Indonesia), Splendour In The Grass (Australia), Pukkelpop (Belgium), Lowlands (Netherlands), and Noorderzon (Netherlands), and Austin City Limits Music Festival (U.S.) September 17th to name a few.  They will also be the only band to support Incubus on their first tour in three years beginning August 30th in Columbus, OH (see tour dates below).  More tour dates will be announced soon.

Their debut has been hailed as “vivid, vibrant rock… a pop masterpiece” by Wall Street Journal, while the band has been celebrated by Spin, USA Today, and Nylon, to name a few.  Even legendary singer Morrissey, who was so impressed by Young The Giant’s performance on Later With Jools Holland, expressed his fandom via a note posted on a Morrissey Zine website: “I could break down with happiness at the new debut CD by Young The Giant. It is the whole thing … it is the perfect tone … and Sameer’s voice is unbreakable. If there is any justice in the world (and we all know there isn’t) Young The Giant will own most of it by August… Every three thousand years, a band comes along who restore that precious component of faith.”

The band will also put out a free Remix EP later this month though their Facebook page. The EP will feature remixes by Two Door Cinema Club, Tokyo Police Club, Ra Ra Riot, and more. They are offering their fans a chance to contribute their own remix as well.  Song stems for six tracks were created and can be downloaded here; the band will choose one lucky winner from all of the submissions and have that remix included on the EP.
