Just when you thought American Horror Story: Coven couldn’t get any creepier, a delightful little tea party enters the picture. You win again Murphy; you win again. Denis O’Hare is the master of horror. Enjoy the silence and fear the teddy bears. Seriously, you can’t help but be in awe of Spalding and his loyalty to Fiona (Jessica Lange). Spalding will not be taking over the airwaves Russell Edgington style, but what he has is so much more. They say that actions speak louder than words – yes, they certainly do in this case. I’m looking forward to getting my fancy tea party card stamped weekly. How about you? “Burn, Witch. Burn!” – Besieged by Marie Laveau’s army, Zoe unleashes a new power. Fiona and Myrtle clash over control of the Coven. Madam LaLaurie is confronted by old ghosts. Written by Jessica Sharzer; Directed by Jeremy Podeswa.
Tonight we get another look inside the troubled mind and home of Madam LaLaurie (Kathy Bates). Um, “chamber of horrors” is the very polite way to put it. If Kathy Bates doesn’t win an award for her performance she should at least be satisfied to know that she has inspired nightmares aplenty. Madam LaLaurie is a deeply disturbed individual. Is there any hope for the new maid?
The “Thriller” moment from last week graduates to Army of Darkness land. It turns out that Luke (Alexander Dreymon) is that guy. Yes, you know “that guy.” What the hell, Luke? Why? Don’t be that guy, ever. Nan (Jamie Brewer) really comes through for a friend. I’m so glad they brought Jamie back this season.
Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) brings her best game forward but notices something different. I can see why they chose Angela for this role because she just doesn’t age. She certainly has that in common with her character. What’s her secret? I’m looking forward to seeing her interact with Kathy and Jessica again. I know, I sound like a broken record but what a phenomenal cast. I will never stop singing their praises.
Fiona Goode does something truly beautiful this evening. I would be lying if I said I didn’t tear up a bit. If you don’t you may be a monster. She knows how to read people when others can’t. Fiona also believes in giving credit where credit is due.
Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) demonstrates the correct way to use common household goods. Clearly, her “gift” would not suit the occasion. That reminds me, what happened to Kyle Spencer (Evan Peters)? He’s already dead so they would make the perfect couple, yet again. Maybe when he returns his rage will have subsided. Those abuse scenes were so hard to watch.
Who do you think is responsible for what happened to Cordela Foxx (Sarah Paulson)? What the hell is her husband up to?
Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) and Fiona have different ideas about how things should work. Will the better witch prevail?
No one is safe in tonight’s episode, not even Home Depot. Trust is a key issue as betrayal runs rampant. Sins of the past will be put to rest as the way is being paved with new ones. You are not going to want to miss tonight’s installment of American Horror Story: Coven – “Burn, Witch. Burn!” I think the title says it all.
It was also announced today that the American Horror Story franchise has been picked up for a fourth season. Congratulations to everyone involved and that includes you because shows would not exist without viewers. Thank you for keeping this phenomenal on the air.
American Horror Story: Coven airs Wednesday nights at 10 on FX.
