Season two of The Strain premieres tonight on FX. I thoroughly enjoyed the season two premiere. I like where the series is headed. Some of your questions will be answered in the premiere through creative storytelling. The only thing that I can’t believe hasn’t happened yet is that Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) hasn’t eradicated that mysterious entity that resides on Dr. Ephraim Goodweather’s (Corey Stoll) head. There is still time for a David Bowie “Boys Keep Swinging” moment. I can’t be the only one waiting for that moment?
Tonight’s episode will give you some insight into the past. You’ll have more of an understanding of how it all began and it really pushes the story forward. With the exception of the backstory, the season starts up pretty much where it left off last season. Max Charles has taken over the role of Zack Goodweather.
Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) is still down on himself for not knowing everything about The Master (Robert Maillet). Last season, he was only able to wound him. Abraham will learn so much more about himself and that which he seeks this season.
Eldritch Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) takes his “partner” status to a whole new level. Thomas Eichhorst (Richard Sammel) is not a fan of his boldness. You know it’s only a matter of time before someone brings Eldritch down a few pegs. Richard Sammel is brilliant in this series. He has the market cornered on creepy and I love it. His presence alone is terrifying. That is the mark of a phenomenal actor.
A familiar face from American Horror Story: Asylum makes an appearance this season. Lizzie Brocheré plays real estate broker Coco Marchand. You will all be making the same face that Eichhorst makes when Coco and Palmer start talking. I love Eichhorst!
Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) and Ephraim are working together to try to make sense of it all. Will they be able to find a cure? It seems hopeless, but hope is all they have. Ephraim’s spirits are definitely high.
Hands down, my favorite part of the show is any moment with Vasiliy Fet in it. He’s the comic relief that holds the team together. Kevin Durand is fantastic in the series.
“Your journey has come to an end, but your adventure is just beginning.”
You are not going to want to miss the season two premiere of The Strain tonight on FX. It really starts the season off right. Season two is deeper, darker, and more maniacal.
The Strain airs Sunday nights at 10/9c on FX.
