Set in the Rock and Anvil Boxing Gym in Lafayette, Louisiana, The Opponent follows the combative relationship between a young fighter (Dulé Hill) and his hard-bitten trainer (Donal Logue) as they prepare for a do-or-die fight that ultimately changes the direction of their lives. Play by Brett Neveu.
Written in 2010 as part of Center Theatre Group’s Writers’ Workshop, this intimate reading in the Kirk Douglas Theatre rehearsal room (only 50 seats!) is the next step in the play’s development. To that end, each presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the playwright and a representative from Center Theatre Group’s Literary Department. Elephant Theatre Company Artistic Director David Fofi directs. Tickets for this general admission event are just $10.
