SONS OF ANARCHY Advance Review “Poenitentia”

SoA_603_Poenitentia_1754Sons of Anarchy has joined Rafi’s (The League) Domination League because seriously, this season is taking over television.  You couldn’t stop watching it even if you wanted to.  Tonight’s episode is full of irony, disgust, tragedy, action, insight, déjà vu, fringe, free range briefs, apologizing, creepy glares, and a few comical thrusts.  “Poenitentia” – Jax secures a new alliance for the club while Clay makes moves inside for protection.

During a press conference with D.A. Tyne Patterson (Cch Pounder) you find out a little more about the young boy involved in the school shooting.  Do you think the club is ultimately going to be held accountable if the proper connections are established?

Nero (Jimmy Smits) shares something very sacred with Gemma (Katey Sagal).  Nero’s explanation of why he does what he does will really get you thinking.  It’s a beautifully touching moment between them.

SoA_603_Poenitentia_1433Lee Toric’s (Donal Logue) web is vast.  He’s easily becoming SAMCRO’s most formidable opponent.  What do I love the most about Toric?  He always thinks outside the box.  If you don’t have something you need then you must make do with what you have.  Toric is also not afraid to say he’s sorry.  The only thing that would have made it better is if he did it Top Gear style.  The Top Gear gentlemen are always apologizing and running away.  Toric also makes one hell of a fashion statement.  I adore the complexity and compassion that this character brings forth.  In the end, he just wants to connect and be part of something.  “I might have one laying around.”  Now that is classic Toric.

Jax (Charlie Hunnam) delivers a message, but was it heard?

Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) is the voice of reason this season.  Jax really needs to listen to him.

Clay (Ron Perlman) is like cancer, you can beat it but traces of it will always be present, lying dormant just waiting to strike.  Will there ever be a cure for Clay?

SoA_603_Poenitentia_0363The boys get together with Charles Barosky (Peter Weller) and Colette Jane (Kim Dickens) to talk shop and things take the usual turn.  What about Jax’s infidelity?  Do you think Jax is going to confess to Tara (Maggie Siff) about what he did with Collette?  If he does, which excuse do you think he will use this time?  I loved the one about while he was inside of them he was only thinking about her.  Yeah, that surely makes it okay then.  Kurt needs to add a character that comes in when people start talking too much and tell them to walk away.  We all need someone like that in our lives.

Tonight’s episode is my favorite of the season.  If I had to pick one quote from “Poenitentia” that sets up the episode it would be “Oh, shit.”  Yes, seriously.  This episode just comes at you from all directions.  Kurt will make you feel pretty one moment and then violate you the next.  I guess he just wants us to feel Otto’s pain.  Damn, I love this show.  “God hath given you one face, and you make yourself another.”

Don’t miss Sons of Anarchy every Tuesday night at 10/9c only on FX.
