Allow the characters to take you on a mystical journey of tonight’s episode of Sons of Anarchy. “Shit happened.” “That’s some crazy ass shit.” That’s pretty much all you need to know. It’s just…WOW! “Jax learns new secrets that turn his world sideways.” That is clearly an understatement. After the hurt that rained down on the family last week, do you think they even have a chance? Time to heal is not an option. Tonight’s episode was directed by Guy Ferland and written by Kurt Sutter and Kem Nunn.
Jax (Charlie Hunnam) bares his scars in a uniquely understated scene of purification. How do you feel about Tara’s (Maggie Siff) plan? Do you think that she went too far? Jax is certainly not in the running for husband and father of the year, but I don’t believe that he deserves to be helplessly behind that wall of deception that Tara is constructing. That’s just not right. Of course, it makes for one hell of a story. Kurt always manages to torture these poor characters by forcing them in corners and beating them profusely with the stick of eternal damnation.
Gemma (Katey Sagal) explores all of her options and goes really deep. Her conversation with Nero (Jimmy Smits) will answer some unanswered questions.
Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) knows how to throw down a greeting when Unser (Dayton Callie) passes by him. Bobby! I will never get sick of Bobby.
Tig (Kim Coates) has someone new to contend with. Luckily, all of the boys finally agree on something that just can’t be denied any longer.
Roosevelt (Rockmond Dunbar) makes light of an unfortunate digestive difficulty. Curse you Roosevelt – you have no idea about all of the pain and suffering. All kidding aside, I loved his scene with Lee Toric (Donal Logue) several episodes ago. It was wonderful to see them together on-screen again, even if it was for a brief moment. As a Terriers fan, that delicate nod meant a lot.
Jax may be blind to certain things but he comes through when he’s needed the most.
The very talented Hayley McFarland, from one of my favorite shows Lie to Me, guest stars as Brooke. Seeing her reminds me how much I miss that show.
If you caught the preview you know that Jax finds his way to Patterson’s (CCH Pounder) office. That is one conversation that you don’t want to miss.
Clay (Ron Perlman) takes things to an interesting level. He enjoys some “therapy” and follows in the footsteps of the lead character from one of my favorite shows. It will all make sense when you see it. Ron is fantastic in tonight’s episode.
The origin of Chucky (Michael Ornstein) is finally revealed. He’s just not in the show enough. We need him to be present even more this season to help us cope with the insanity. He is the necessary crazy.
Tonight’s episode is fantastic. You’ll get a brief history lesson and experience some “the more you know” moments. Expect to see a familiar face. Some things you have to just see to believe. You are not going to want to miss “John 8:32.”
Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesday nights at 10 on FX.
